SDA staff members have provided design for large highway systems including design-build and design, bid, build projects. We have also provided design for smaller local roads and pedestrian and bicycle facilities.  Often our design is in support of a private development project which includes site design in one jurisdiction and right-of-way improvements in another. These scenarios create unique design and coordination challenges which showcase our abilities.

SDA has the capabilities to design a road from right-of-way drawings through construction drawings and specifications. We also have the experience and understanding of the coordination effort required to work with other consultants on large projects to make them successful.  Our staff has designed and managed large highway segments for jurisdictions such as WSDOT as well as smaller road segments for local municipalities.  We have developed pedestrian walkway designs for several jurisdictions.  Often these projects have limited resources dictated by grants or other considerations. SDA efficiently analyzes construction costs and the potential end-product of multiple design scenarios to maximize the improvement value. SDA staff members have current training in ADA requirements and have recently been applying new standards to a variety of roadway and pedestrian projects.  Finally, we draw on our understanding of construction means, methods and scheduling to develop detailed and effective Traffic Control, Detour and Maintenance of Traffic design for WSDOT, Sound Transit, and municipal projects.
